Machine Sewing Skills
For many people now the use of a sewing machine is not something they learnt at home or even at school but you want to start sewing. Have you invested in a new machine but do not feel confident about it. It looked so easy in the shop but you are finding the instructions are a bit difficult to understand.
For those who are new to sewing with little or no experience. It is also ideal if you have recently upgraded your machine but not really used the new features
Learn to Sew – Learn to use your sewing machine and make crafted items for yourself, your home or as gifts. This is either a 5 week, 2 hour course or a workshop. After this course you will be able to take part in other courses using your machine.
If you have some experience with machine sewing but want to know more about your machine. These courses are usually offered as a one day workshop but can be changed to suit other sessions
Learn Machine Applique – Learn the basic and traditional techniques of appliqué but all worked on the sewing machine. Use the techniques to enhance your quilts and other projects. During the course there will be an opportunity to use your new skills to make a small project
New Ways with Applique – If you are looking for new ideas then this course has 3 innovative techniques of applique. All these can be used on quilts, bags and clothing. During the course you will be able to use one of these on a project
Learn Machine Quilting – Learn how to prepare your project for quilting and use the sewing machine for various types of machine quilting including Free Machine Quilting. At the end of the course you will have a reference for many types of quilting to use in your projects
Free Machine Embroidery and More – Even if you only have a basic machine you can learn all about patterning and embroidering, including how to do Free Machine Embroidery. You will then have samples and notes of all the techniques to use in the projects you make
Perfect Finishes for Quilts and Crafts – Learn how to give your work a real prize winning finish for bags, quilts cushions and other crafted items This course includes making perfect binding for quilts, making bias and how to add mitred corners. You will then be able to either make a bag or a cushion front with a mitred corner border
Next Steps with your Sewing Machine – find all about the extra feet that came with the machine and how they are used. Learn how to make a buttonhole, how to sew difficult fabrics and how to use the all the extra stitches that are on the machine.
All about Zips and Piping – on this course you will learn to cut, make and insert piping or use ready made piping. You will also have the opportunity to insert different types of zip, including invisible, on your sewing machine. You can then either make a piped cushion or a zippered bag
Make a Laptop or Tablet Bag – Learn to make bias applique to decorate a padded and quilted bag to fit your laptop, notebook or tablet. You will be supplied with a pattern that can be altered to fit your particular item.
Applique and Decorative Stitching for Christmas – this course will be an opportunity to learn machine sewing techniques while creating some unique items. The projects include a Christmas card, gift bag, Christmas bunting, Christmas stocking and a placemat and matching napkin. All enhanced with machine applique and decorative stitches.
Machine Decorated Bags – even the most basic machine has stitches that can be used for decoration. You will learn how use the stiches and then make an easy shoulder bag. This is an ideal course for those who want to get more out of their sewing machines.

All the courses can also be given as small workshops. I always provide notes for every participant, which in all cases can become a personal reference folder. The workshops are ideal if you run a quilt or other sewing group as I can also design a course to meet the group’s requirements.
