Free Machine Embroidery and More -Tuesday 11th September – 10.30 – 2.30
Get more from your Sewing Machine than just doing a straight and zig-zag stitch. Most sewing machines have a range of stitches which can add a decorative finish to your projects. Using just some of the stitches you can do crazy patchwork, make braids and cords and transform plain fabric with decorative stitching. You can also learn the technique of Free Motion Embroidery. This can be used in quilting, applique and for making pictures. Samples will be made and a full set of notes provided. Come and see just what you can do with your sewing machine
Start Dressmaking a 5 week course begins Tuesday 11th September
Evening Class – 7.30 – 9.30
If you would love to make clothes that really fit and don’t look “home-made” then join this course and find just what you need to learn so that everything made looks great. You learn how to choose a pattern and fabric and then alter the pattern to fit. You will then use fast professional techniques to make and complete a garment of your choice. Forget about just making samples or doing tedious old fashioned processes and learn how to make clothes that you will actually wear
Advanced Sewing Machine Skills – Thursday 13th September 10.30 – 4.30
If you only use the basic controls on the sewing machine for straight and zig zag stitching , then this course will explore all the other aspects of your sewing machine. If the machine has a number of different presser feet but you are not really sure what they do and how they fit on the machine, you will be using all the feet supplied with the machine, including how to make a buttonhole. You will also be able to try out the stitches that are built in to your machine.
There will also be time to learn all about the different needles and threads that can be used on a sewing machine and the effects that can be created. There will also be the opportunity to try out your new skill by making a choice of project.
Sew with Knits a 4 week course begins Thursday 27th September
Daytime Class 10.30 -12.30
Sewing with knit fabric is not difficult just different. Knit fabrics such jersey, sweat – shirting, fleece and other stretchy fabric just need other techniques for your garment to be successful.
During the course you will learn the necessary techniques of sewing stretch/knit fabrics on your sewing machine which to enable you to assemble and finish a variety of garments. If you are confident in the use of your Overlocker then this can be used on the course as well as your sewing machine. There will be time to make a simple skirt without a pattern and then make a top or dress from a paper pattern of your choice.
Learn Machine Applique – Tuesday 2nd October – 10.30 – 1.30
This morning workshop will introduce you to Applique but using a sewing machine. You will learn various techniques and make samples with fabrics sewn with different threads. Once you know how, you can embellish your clothes and other projects such as bags and quilts with Machine Applique. If you can use your sewing machine for straight and zig-zag stitch you can learn Machine Applique.

Learn to Love your Overlocker – Saturday 10th November – This day work shop is for everyone who has an Overlocker but is unsure how to use it, finds the threading a nightmare or cannot get the tension right. During the work shop, threading will be made easy and tension explained so that it can be set correctly. You will then see how to adjust everything to ensure your Overlocker makes a perfect stitch for everything you want to make.
Don’t leave it in the cupboard, come and find out how to use it and see what it can do for all your sewing projects.
Sew for Christmas – A 4 week course starting on Tuesday 6th November – A Daytime Class 10.30 – 12.30
Why not join this course making crafted machine sewn projects for Christmas. It will be an opportunity to learn machine sewing techniques while creating some unique items. The projects will cover machine applique and using decorative stitches. If you are new to machine sewing, this course is an ideal opportunity to learn new skills and successfully complete a project. If you have some experience or perhaps you have upgraded your machine and have not used the sewing machine to its full potential then this course will let you try everything out while working on projects for Christmas.
There is a selection of projects to make and there should be time to complete some of these Notes will be available so the others can be completed in your own time
Learn to Sew – A 4 week course starting on Tuesday 6th November – 7.30 – 9.30.
This course is for those who want to learn to sew by machine. It is also for those who have not sewn for a while and are returning to using their sewing machine. It is suitable for complete beginners or those with some experience. Everyone will learn all about their sewing machine and how to use all the controls. They will learn about different threads and types and sizes of needle to be able to select the correct needle and thread for a project. They will also learn how to maintain the machine and what to do if it goes wrong.
Every week sewing skills will be developed while making something different. All the skills learnt can then be used in whatever area of sewing is of interest.
