Forget about just making samples or doing tedious old fashioned processes and learn how to make clothes that you will actually wear
Next Steps with your Sewing Machine – Saturday 27th April – 10.30 -4.30
If you only use the basic controls on the sewing machine for straight and zig zag stitching , then this course will explore all the other aspects of your sewing machine. If the machine has a number of different presser feet but you are not really sure what they do and how they fit on the machine, you will be using all the feet supplied with the machine, including how to make a buttonhole. You will also be able to try out the stitches that are built in to your machine.
There will also be time to learn all about the different needles and threads that can be used on a sewing machine and the effects that can be created. There will also be the opportunity to try out your new skills by making a choice of project.
An Advanced Overlocker Course on Saturday 4th May 10.30 – 4.30pm
If you have an Overlocker that you use to sew seams and neaten raw edges have you thought that you could do much more? When you got your Overlocker, did it come with extra feet that you have either not used or if you did, it was not a good result? If the answer is yes to either question then join this course and find out just what you can do with your Overlocker.
You can experiment with decorative threads to produce lots of different edging. Make very fine French seams and attach lace edgings.
With the extra feet you can stitch on beads and sequins, insert piping in one row of stitching and use wire or nylon line to give a wire edge to ribbon and other fabrics. There are also other feet and their use will be covered as well
If you don’t have any extra feet there will be an opportunity to try them out. You can then decide if you want to buy any of them.
NEW – Trouser Making Techniques Saturday 25th May 10.30 – 4.30 pm
A one day workshop focusing entirely on techniques for making trousers.
Although the actual construction of trousers is straight forward they often have quite detailed techniques especially for the pockets and fastenings. During the day we will cover all different styles of pockets (including welt), inserting a front fly, front and side zips and much more.
This is a great at follow on from the Perfectly Fitting Trousers in March workshop or as a stand alone day to enhance your skills as many of the techniques are used on other garments
We don’t cover fit on this day; if you are struggling to make trousers that fit well, then join our Perfectly Fitting Trousers 2 day course either before or after this one
There are more courses being planned for 2019 so check back to this page
All the classes book up quickly so to ensure you have a place book early
